Literature
The beauty of literature is that you can get to truly know someone from the sprawling notes of marginalia. My friends and I traded our favorite books with each other last year to stay in touch at different universities. We get those books back tonight. I’m excited to read them finally. I Lll be able to see what parts they hated, loved, and ate through. Bleeding pen marks. Grease stains....

The problem with my family...
Is that they question when I wear bow ties. No. Please? I wear them quite well. (Well at least I hope.)

“There was something incredibly moving about witnessing the person you love...”
– — Zoe Whittal, Holding Still for as Long as Possible Rebecca Rose is actually the cutest friend in the world.  She is.  She sent me this amazing book for Christmas by this author I was kind of obsessed with a few years ago and I totally forgot I even liked her until this arrived in the mail. So...

I love my mother.
Mom: When I carried him (me) it felt different than all my other pregnancies (me=6th child).
Sister: Really?
Me: Oh, that's weird.
Mom: Yeah, for the longest time I thought he felt like a girl. His kicks were different and I was a lot sicker than you other kids.
Sister: You were older Mom.
Mom: But I knew my baby was different. Not different but unique. He was whoever he was going to be.
Mom: It was funny because when he was 2 he asked me to paint his nails and I did. He always picked the green nail paints.
Me: Wait, what? I thought you painted my nails.
Mom: No, be quiet, you always asked. (Yep, apparently I did.)
Sister: What did people say with a son that had painted nails?
Mom: They asked why I did it and I just said he looked cute. I knew he was different. Well, gay isn't different but you know what I mean. I knew. It hurt me when people looked at him weird, so I just waited until he grew up to tell me.
I had no idea. I'm speechless. I love my mother so much despite our differences.

Eyes and Smiles
I love just sitting and listening whenever I’m with friends or family. I’m an observer. We all are, I suppose. But I always wait until a “trigger” sets off a laugh or grin.  I don’t know. But it’s always the most amazing thing. It’s rather beautiful. “What is your favorite childhood dish?” “It was this mac and cheese that I made with...

vowelsme: Auto-antonyms (also called autantonyms; there are a couple other names for them, too) are two words that are spelled the same but actually have opposite meanings. A few examples: “To cleave” = “to cling” or “to split” “To weather” = “to endure” (as in a storm) or “to erode”…

Textbooks in College
Me: Is it okay if I just buy the 7th edition instead of the 8th? It's over $100 cheaper and it would be great if I could save some money.
Professor: No. They added a comma in the new edition, which is utterly essential to your comprehension of the author's content.
